ALGONQUIN LIMESTONE
Algonquin Limestone with a honed finish displays a warm neutral “earthy” tones. Light brown-beige with a subtle fleuri pattern. This stone is indigenous to the Wiarton, Ontario, Canada region and is not known to exist anywhere else throughout the world. Honed Algonquin is generally used in interior applications while the sandblasted and smooth sanded finishes are popular choices for exterior cladding and cut stone masonry. Description: Subtle fleuri patternColour: Warm neutral buff with grey and black veins Finishes: Honed, Polished, Sandblasted, Smoothsanded, Bush-hammered (Fleuri only) Applications: Exterior, Interior Products: Tiles, Slabs, Panels Maximum Vein Cut Width: 12” to 14” Maximum Fleuri/Vein Length: 110” Maximum Fleuri Width: 55” Comments: Often referred to “Hariri Pontarini’s signature stone” ASTM Physical Test Results Absorption by Weight C97 - 1.63% Density C97 - 160 lbs/ cu.ft Compressive Strength C170 - 14,250 psi Modulus of Rupture C99 - 2,810 psi Abrasion Resistance C241 - 21.3 Flexural Strength C880 – n/a
ERAMOSA LIMESTONE Eramosa Limestone, due to its unique and pronounced fleuri pattern, accepts a variety of different finishes very well. It is originates from the Wiarton – Owen Sound, Ontario, Canada region and is not known to exist anywhere else throughout the world. Owen Sound (quarried) Limestone is a variation of the Eramosa Limestone but is sold as a natural surface top and bottom. Wiarton Eramosa Limestone wall stone is sold with a sawn top and bottom.
Textural contrast can be achieved by sandblasting or bush hammering Eramosa. The rougher finishes are generally specified for exterior panels and vertical panels. Comparatively to other stone, Eramosa is a very durable and long lasting limestone. Description: Distinct appearance due to lively fleuri and heavy veining Colour: Dark to light brown with black undertones Finishes: Honed, Polished, Sandblasted, Smoothsanded, Bush-hammered (Fleuri only) Applications: Exterior, Interior Products: Tiles, Slabs, Wall Stone, Panels, Pavers Maximum Vein Cut Width: 24” Minimum Vein Cut Thickness: 1/2” Maximum Fleuri/Vein Length: 110” Maximum Fleuri Width: 55” Comments: Often referred to as “Mosa”, “Tiger-stripe”, “Eramosa Marble”, “Magic Brown Marble" ASTM Physical Test Results Absorption by Weight C97 - 0.19% Density C97 - 165 lbs/ cu.ft Compressive Strength C170 - 20,882 psi Modulus of Rupture C99 - N/A Abrasion Resistance C241 - 24.5 Flexural Strength C880 - 3,442 psi
HOPE BAY LIMESTONE
Hope Bay Limestone has an inconsistent “cloud-like” patterning (fleuri cut). Vein Cut material has a similar patterning but has a noticeably thick and subtle veining pattern. Hope Bay Limestone is an excellent choice for exterior applications: split face wall stone applications illustrate the stone’s vibrant, crisp white look while honed exterior wall panels demonstrate the inconsistent, rich hues of natural stone. INDIANA LIMESTONE
Indiana Limestone is commonly used in a variety of residential and commercial construction. Indiana Limestone has various colours of buff and grey tones. The colour and patterning is generally consistent throughout. There is virtually no distinct patterning unless the stone is vein cut and given a honed/polished finish.
Description: Consistent in colour and pattern. Colour: Buff or Grey Colour Finishes: Polished, Honed, Sandblasted, Smooth Sanded, Bush-hammered finishes Applications: Exterior, Interior Products: Tiles, Slabs, Panels, Wall stone, Carvings, Pavers Maximum Vein Cut Width: n/a Minimum Vein Cut Thickness: n/a Maximum Fleuri/Vein Length: 110” Maximum Fleuri Width: 55” ASTM Physical Test Results Absorption by Weight C97 - 0.95% Density C97 - 155 lbs/cu.ft Compressive Strength C170 - 8,600 psi Modulus of Rupture C99 - 1,350 psi Abrasion Resistance C241 - 7.8 Flexural Strength C880 - N/A MARA LIMESTONE
Mara is often polished for countertops and flooring or it can be “split faced” and used as wallstone. When honed or polished, the stone has a “mottled”, inconsistent appearance. This high density dolomite is made into polished marble or split into wall stone. The marble is light grey-brown with modulations of subtle blues and greens. Mara can take a high polish. Mara wall stone has a definite grey-green appearance with earthy rust colours intermittent throughout. SENESUN LIMESTONE
Senesun Limestone is most commonly for small or midsize construction projects. This is due to the restrictions and difficulties involved when quarrying this stone. WIARTON BROWN/GREY MIX LIMESTONE
Wiarton Brown/Grey Mix Limestone is most commonly sold together for any midsize or large scale construction projects. Wiarton Brown and Wiarton Grey stone is ONLY sold separately for extremely small purchases (ie. 2 Wiarton Brown steps). This is due to the restrictions and difficulties involved when quarrying this stone. STRATA LIMESTONE
Strata Limestone is a “pockmark” laden, undulating material that shows both the character and imperfection of stone. It is primarily used as retaining walls and wall stone material. There is no mistaking strata limestone for a “man-made”, concrete product.
FLAGSTONE
Flagstone is a stone that splits naturally at varying thicknesses. Dependent upon the sedimentary layers found in the earth, thicknesses can vary greatly. Flagstone can be flat but often has an imperfect cleft appearance. All thicknesses are considered plus or minus approximations due to the imperfect naturally occurring seams within the stone. Limestone being a natural product will always vary in both colour and texture.
